Our laboratory is currently involved (since 1999) in studies concerning the role of chemokines in cell migration. Two main areas are being investigated. One involves research on the role of chemokines in cancer cell metastasis, particularly in melanoma and myeloma. These investigations cover also functional relationships between chemokine receptors and metalloproteinases. The other is the characterization of intracellular signalling required for chemokine-promoted cell adhesion mediated by the integrin alpha4beta1, and more specifically the role of guanine-nucleodide exchange factors and GTPases.
