Understanding and fighting metastasis via dissection of the Core Invasive Machinery

Innovation

The MetaFight project will develop novel strategies for the investigation of the signalling mechanisms with respect to metastasis outgrowth.

Innovation to be achieved by the project includes the development of basic research platforms in in vivo imaging techniques. In addition, small molecule-based drug development is a rapidly evolving field. Moreover the consortium will develop innovative ways for delivery of these substances. Basic research, translation, and exploitation will result in novel possibilities in metastasis therapeutic tools.

The MetaFight consortium will develop a comprehensive approach by focusing on the Core Invasive Machinery contained within integrin-mediated ECM attachment structure. It includes a large and discretely localised intracellular signalling network, consisting of the Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) as well as their proximal effectors such as small GTPases and adaptor proteins.
