1st Metastasis Summer School: 5 to 9 September 2009
The 3 FP7 European projects engaged in the metastasis research: Metafight, TuMIC, and SFMET organised in early September a first common summer school, in Sesimbra, Portugal.
During 4 days, the MetaFight – TUMIC - SFMET Summer School brought together researchers from their respective projects as well as leading experts from USA.
The main topics presented and discussed during this summer school were:
- the dissection of the core invasive machinery,
- the cancer stem cell contribution to this process, and
- the microenvironment for metastasis formation.
This event had the aim to encourage exchange of views and knowledge between scientists and in particular between students and post-docs involved in metastasis related research.
The Portuguese Champalimaud Foundation also took part to the summer school and sponsored the participation of speakers, amongst them 3 leaders of the Champalimaud Metastasis Programme laboratories.
All participants had the opportunity to visit the construction site of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown due to open on October 2010.
The foundation also sponsored the participation of a representative of Nature Reviews who rewarded the best poster with a year print subscription of the journal.
