- European Network of Breast Development and Cancer Labs
The goal of this network is to foster interactions between labs working on mammary gland development and cancer worldwide.
www.enbdc.org - The TuMIC project
The TuMIC project is using novel experimental approaches to integrate newly emerging principles and ideas concerning tumor dissemination with the different hypotheses that have until now tried to explain the process of metastasis. Specifically it aims to understand how cancer stem cells behave in and contribute to metastasis, and how networks and pathways that are known to regulate metastasis affect their properties. Further objectives are to determine how a permissive microenvironment for metastasis formation is established in given organs, how this contributes to determining patterns of metastasis, and how these microenvironments interact with cancer stem cells.

The SFMET project aims to clarify the way in which hypoxia or the Wnt and chemokine pathways affect Met-dependent tumour progression and develop novel therapeutics targeting Met or selected downstream effectors for the therapy of metastatic cancer.

The Champalimaud Foundation is a private organisation dedicated to making advances in biomedical science. With an endowment of 500,000,000 Euros, the Foundation’s work is focused on three core areas – neuroscience research, cancer research, and an outreach programme to support the fight against blindness. Based in Lisbon, Portugal, the Foundation is in the process of constructing the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, a cutting-edge research facility that, by 2010, will host the majority of the Foundation’s research activities.
